The "Jack" Series: The House That Jack Built

by Saxon, Goerge E

Video 1986

The House That Jack Built is a humorous pastiche on the nursery rhyme. Originally shown as a multi-screen film as part of House Watch, the film was re-worked on video and then transferred to 16mm. A burlesque, using a mixture of song and pantomime, in which a string of characters come to life in a comic circus of adventures. The humour however, belies the underlying sinister comment on our times: 'This Victorian England', with its moral fear, ignorance and deceit. The dastardly deeds of 'JACK' or the unscrupulous deeds of Jackals? - G.S.
