Documentary about the Thames and its history within the commercial and economic life of London. Travelling on the tide in a small boat between Seaward Limit and London bridge, the camera scans the Kent and Essex shores. This modern footage is interwoven with paintings, engravings, photographs and archive film which reveals a time when the river was artery to an empire and the busiest waterway in the world.
