On White/Off White

by Saxon, George

Film: 16mm 1976

'This is the first film (thanks to D. Parsons and J. Tingle). This film was shot entirely on location in a room which I had painted white, only to spoil it over a period of weeks with tell tale signs of 'I was here' in the dust, the footprints and numerous brass rubbings which were evidence that I had been there...the first film emerged: Using two clockwork cameras, positioned at slightly different angles, delineating two areas of floor space. On the right a large brass rubbing of the floor. On the let, the white painted floor and signs of life. Both cameras were started rolling simultaneously - whilst I rolled into the picture twisting and writhing for the duration...the result: TWINS!' - G.S.
