Love on the Wing

by McLaren, Norman

Film: 35mm 1938

other: see notes

Cartoon film publicising the Air Mail Service. "In this film, McLaren shows a growing subtlety of technique and the beginnings of visual imagery that occur throughout his work. He uses clouds to achieve the effect of depth and space... There is also the use of 'iamge metamorphosis', in whic, through subtle changes in drawings, from frame to frame, images are made to change their shape from one thing to another... The Postmaster General of Great Britain was not pleased with the lack of dignity of this film especially McLaren's forceful and often hilarious use of Freudian and erotic symbolism". Maynard Collins, 'Norman McLaren' (1975)
