Human and Natural History
Shot on 16mm black and white film and edited on video, Human And Natural History depicts the relationship between a man, a woman and a tape recorder. They arm wrestle, he plunges his head in desperation onto her lap, and she tenderly cradles the tape recorder. The soundtrack is taken entirely from a television documentary about the mating rituals of fish in the Arabian Gulf. Beautiful, funny and unsettling, the piece offers wry comment on the wafer thin gulf that seperates us from our evolutionary ancestors, and a mirror to our own bizarre rituals.
