Filmarmalade was founded by Gordon Shrigley in 2007 as a not for profit artists’ multiple practice that seeks to publish and distribute contemporary film and video works by a variety of contemporary fine artists to as wider an audience as possible.

As a publishing practice Filmarmalade is unique in that apart from publishing and making available works by contemporary artists at an affordable price, its aim is also to encourage debate around questions of visuality by the strategic use of the featurette. The Filmarmalade featurette constructs filmed interviews with each artist as a way of recording the space created by the artist, their language, terms of reference, gestures and sense of commitment to practice.

A collection of the DVDs published by Filmarmalade is held by the British Artists’ Film and Video Study Collection.
