Raban, William

1948, Fakenham, Raban studied at Saint Martins School of Art, London, and Reading University. On graduating, he quickly became one of the foremost artist-filmmakers of his generation. His hypnotic films of land and sea arise from a structuralist sensibility but their visual flair and openness to the beauty of natural phenomena set him apart from his peers. From 1972-6 he was manager of the London Filmmakers Co-op Workshop. From 1977-81 he published the bi-monthly journal Filmmakers’ Europe. He is currently Reader in Film at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London.
