Sergio Cruz was born in Portugal in 1977. He studied sound and image in Portugal and Amsterdam. In 2005 he moved to London and studied Dance for the Screen at The Place - London Contemporary Dance School and later undertook a Masters in Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Now based in London, he works as an independent artist/filmmaker, sound designer, camera operator and editor. His recent work explores ideas about human movement through filmmaking, pushing the boundaries between fiction and documentary. In 2006 he won a film commission from South East Dance, Channel 4, and Arts Council England to direct the short film Animalz, and in 2007 he won The Red Mansion Art Prize. Recently he completed Road Movie, a short film about China, and will start a new film project about Africa in the near future.
